T2T Candidate Support & Benefits

Recognizing that you have chosen the independent route for earning a NM teaching license, the NM Transition to Teaching program has built different kinds of supports for you focused on helping you to build your online portfolio.

To participate in a workshops or required course work you must be fully accepted, not provisionally accepted, into the T2T program prior to registering.

• Intensive workshops will help you build skills and knowledge as well as provide a means for you to meet regularly with other candidates who are working to earn their license through the online portfolio route.
• Portfolio coaches will help guide you in your online portfolio development.
• A resource kit will provide you with valuable information on classroom techniques and onlilne portfolio preparation.
• The Transition to Teaching Program will also provide support for the required reading courses for the license you are seeking. The course work is provided through a special arrangement with the Santa Fe Community College (SFCC).
• On-line modules have been designed to help you shape the required competencies for initial licensure through the online portfolio route. These modules have been developed by the IRIS Center at Vanderbilt University.

Please don't forget: to participate in a workshop or required course work you must be accepted into the T2T program prior to registering.

The modules that were built specifically for NM Transition to Teaching Candidates are:

• Teaching and Learning in New Mexico, an introduction to teaching New Mexico's diverse students.
• Classroom Assessment, an introduction to using progress monitoring procedures to assess students' successes.
• Content Standards, a module to help you tie the standards based curriculum to your instructional planning.
• Who's in Charge and You're in Charge, two modules designed to address best practices in classroom management.

In addition to using the above modules to inform your online portfolio, and your practice, we encourage you to explore IRIS's vast resources — such as the other modules, case studies, and research.
