Intro to the Professional Development Dossier (PDD)

teacher in classroom

The Professional Development Dossier for Librarian-Teachers (PDD-LT) is the cornerstone of advancement for teachers in the 3-Tiered Licensure System. Librarian-Teachers must complete the PDD-LT in order to advance from Level I to Level II and to advance from Level II to Level III.

The NM Professional Development Dossier for Librarian-Teachers (PDD-LT) is a focused, compact collection of documentation compiled by the librarian-teacher seeking licensure advancement (Strands A, B, & C) and her/his school district (Strands D & E).

To find out more about the PDD-LT and the PDD-LT review process, read the Requirements & Guidelines for Preparation of the Professional Development Dossier. Most importantly, the Requirements & Guidelines contain all directions on how to complete the PDD-LT.

Submission Period

The PDD submission period begins July 15 at 12:01am and will remain open until 5:00pm, March 31 the following year.

Submission Process

Initial Dossier Submission

You are required to use the Librarian Submission Templates that are linked in Step 4 or downloadable from the online Teacher Resource Center. You can access those resources by registering with the system.

Librarian-Teacher dossiers submitted that do not use the proper template will not be reviewed!
The PDD-LT template(s) that Librarian-Teachers use are not an alternative route for Librarian-Teachers.

Once you established your account we strongly suggest that you complete the following online steps in order. Step 1 in the first week of the submission window, and Steps 2, 3, 4, and 5 by the third week of the window. This way, if you have any technical troubles uploading your materials, there is time to make corrections or to contact Support.

Typically, your scores will be available within the submission window.

Dossier Resubmission

If you are submitting your Dossier Materials after an earlier submission, then you will follow a similar process as above. The resubmission payment you make will be different, however, depending on the number of Strands that you want to be re-reviewed.

For Librarian-Teachers Resubmitting Dossier Materials you are required to use the Librarian resubmission templates that are located in the Teacher Resource Center as well as in Step 4 below.

Librarian-Teacher dossiers submitted that do not use the proper template will not be reviewed!

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5

Register and create an account with the NM Public Education Department online PDD-LT system.

Read carefully the Requirements & Guidelines for Preparing the PDD-LT, including appendices that include important forms.

Use the PDD-LT Resources (see sidebar) to support your work as you collect evidence and complete your writing

Use the PDD-LT Strand A–D Templates (see sidebar) to complete your dossier and submit each strand.

Submit Strands A, B, & C online.

Your administrator will complete Strand D & E online.

The PDD-LT system is used to make licensure decisions, therefore the Requirements & Guidelines for its preparation are standardized, and you should follow them carefully. However, you should also remember that the intent of the Requirements & Guidelines is to allow you to tell a set of stories from your practice, stories that are illustrated and validated by concrete evidence from your work with your students and others in your classroom. The PDD-LT system is not a test with the right answer. Instead, PDD-LT allows you to construct a picture of your teaching.

To meet this goal, you are asked to provide explanations of what you did on several occasions in your teaching and to substantiate that explanation with data. Two outside reviewers will make decisions based on both the explanation and the data. As they review your portfolio, they will seek to understand what you do and how you think about instruction, student learning, and professional growth. Both outside reviewers will be experienced educators, but only one of the reviewers will have similar subject area expertise. Keep in mind this purpose and audience as you construct your PDD-LT.
